Humane Society of Warren County

HSWC is a 501c3 organization that holds a contract with Warren County to provide animal sheltering services. We are an open admission shelter and do not turn animals away due to medical or behavioral needs. We work diligently to save the lives of all the adoptable animals in our care. We also work with the community to help increase pet retention. We are a drop off location for transport to the local spay/neuter clinic.

Meet Choco

You have heard the term Land Hippo... well Choco fits that description perfectly. He is around 2 years old and just as sweet as they come. He doesn't really care for toys much but he absolutely loves to be with people and get love and give kisses. He will do great in a family that likes to go on walkies and also chill out on the couch. He weighs in around 65 ponds and does pull on leash and would benefit from leash training to make walkies, which another activity he loves, easier on you and him. He rides ok in the car but would definitely prefer to be loose and not in a crate. His owner passed away and unfortunately we don't have much history on him. He has met a cat in a carrier and seemed very interested although we are unsure of if he will do good with cats in a home. SUPER SLOW introductions and patience will be the best way to ensure the safety of everyone and to give everyone time to hopefully adjust peacefully. He did live with two other dogs, one of which was a female that he was surrendered with but we are unsure of if the other dog was male or female. At this time we don't know about him with other dogs and a dog test will be required if you currently have a pup of your own. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. If you are ready for the biggest cuddle bug in your family apply today.Interested in adopting? Adoption Process
Interested adopters must fill out an adoption application. We verify that current pets are UTD on Rabies vaccinations and spayed or neutered. If the applicants rent we verify with the landlord that they are approved to adopt a pet. Adopters must fill out an adoption contract and sterilization agreement if the pet is not already altered. Pets that are not altered can only be adopted out to residents of Warren County or a surrounding jurisdiction. The adoption fee for cats is $15 and the fee for dogs is $30. The adoption fee does not include the cost of spay or neuter. If the animal is not altered adopters are required to have the pet altered within 30 days of adoption or by the time it reaches 6 months old.
