Worthy Dog Rescue

Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations. Our mission is to provide a better life for these dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.

Meet Wolfgang - ADOPTED!!!

Meet Wolfgang, a.k.a. Wolf! This gorgeous boy was surrendered to his current foster mom, Laura, who is helping out his former owner. In April, Wolf’s owner put out a plea on Facebook for someone to watch Wolf for a week or two while he recovered from complications from heart surgery. He was a friend of her sister’s, so she decided to step up. Her 13-year-old daughter adores Alaskan Malamutes and she thought this would be a good introduction to the breed. Two months later, Wolf is still there, and the owner has shown little interest in his welfare. Realizing he is not invested in Wolf, she asked his owner to surrender him and reached out to us for help finding him a great home. Wolf has been living as part of Laura’s family for two months now. She lives on a farm and has four kids, ages 5 to 13, and two dogs. He’s excellent with the kids, submissive to the other dogs (a 7-year-old Border Collie and a 4-year-old blue-eyed mutt), and plays nicely with every dog he’s met. He is a super-sweet social pup and does well meeting new people. He’s been a wonderful addition to their family but is just not a great farm dog. True to his name, Wolf chases their sheep and chickens. He’s never hurt them but has pinned a sheep and carried a chicken around like his prize…eventually letting it run away. Like many Huskies, Wolf has a desire to run free, and she does not trust him off leash. Laura’s property is wide open, and she has to make sure he’s secured on a lead when outside. She wants more for him and never had the intention to add a third dog, but she’s committed to him, and he will be loved and well cared for until he finds his forever home. We checked in with Laura to learn more about Wolf: “Wolf is super chill for an almost two-year-old Malamute who doesn’t get to run. He plays with toys, loves balls, wrestles with the willing, and just wants to be with his people. He’s cuddly and affectionate. He loves to be touched and doesn’t have any off-limits places. He comes up to me and stands with his head under my hand, or lays his big head on my bed and stares at me asking for love. He happily sleeps on the floor next to my bed. Wolf is a confident boy, and we are teaching him manners, like not to jump on people or steal food off the counter, wait at the door when he wants to go out, and improve on leash. He still pulls on the leash, but not as much as when he first arrived here; he used to drag me across the yard, but now my teenager can walk him safely. When he came to us, he was not fully housetrained, but he hasn’t had an accident in weeks. I haven’t used the crate yet, but may try it out. As far as exercise goes, he gets leash walks around the yard while the chickens are free roaming. When they go in the coop, I hook the long line on him and he gets to run free and play. My kids play soccer with him and he loves toys. He wrestles with my boy Zeus regularly too. Every once in awhile he will howl when he's left alone, but he's been good staying home along with my dogs.  His next home should be with people who are able to spend a lot of time with him. Either a fenced yard or walks for exercise would suit him. I think he’d enjoy having another dog around but it’s not a necessity." **** Wolf is so lucky to have Laura advocating for him. Because she cared and took action, he’s going to get a great home and the life he deserves. We feel the best home will be a fun, active family — kids are great, and a playful dog buddy is even better. He's not a natural with cats. Preference will be given to families with Husky/Malamute experience and a securely fenced yard.
