New Rattitude, Inc.

New Rattitude is a national, all-volunteer non-profit rescue/adoption agency whose mission is to rescue Rat Terriers (and mixes that are predominantly Rat Terrier) from imminent death at animal shelters, the streets, abusive/neglectful homes, or from owners who can no longer keep a dog, and to rehome the dogs into new and permanent, screened and approved adoptive homes. Each dog rescued is cared for in a safe and nurturing foster care environment where he or she receives appropriate medical care, a high quality diet, training and socialization. To achieve these ends, the organization is involved with transportation, volunteer recruiting and training, mentoring, fund-raising, and establishing and maintaining other programs deemed helpful to achieving the mission of rescuing and re-homing Rat Terriers.

Meet Marla (VA)

Is your small, gently playful dog looking for a companion? If so, sweet Marla would love to join you. Marla is about 1 year old and 10 lbs. She appears to be a Teddy Roosevelt rat terrier, although her tail is not cropped. Though young, Marla has had an eventful life. She was a stray in Georgia where a good Samaritan was attempting to catch her. Unfortunately, Marla eluded capture and was involved in a car accident. After a week in a shelter, New Rattitude came to the rescue and gave her the medical attention she needed. Her left rear leg was amputated and she had three weeks of recovery at a temporary foster home. She then made her way to Roanoke, VA to her permanent foster home by plane via the Paws to Pilots program! All this is to say is that Marla has had quite a turbulent few months and is a very cautious dog. Despite all this, Marla is a sweet girl just trying to be happy. It appears she had trauma previous to being a stray which made her very distrustful of humans. Even though she's been with her foster mom since June 2024, she still stays a few feet away and is not interested in snuggles, excessive petting, or joining her on the couch or bed. That said, she follows her foster mom around the house and yard with happy wags and loves their three daily walks together. Still, Marla is at her happiest with other small gently playful dogs and really comes out of her shell with a special canine friend. Marla will be required to be kept at a healthy weight and given mobility food to maintain her joint health. Marla is house-trained and cat friendly. Homes with children are not appropriate for Marla. She must be placed with a well-matched canine friend in a quiet, peaceful home. Marla is local adoption only. Several meet-and-greets with her potential dog and human family will be required to ensure that a good match is made. More photos of Marla can be seen at https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/marla .
