Pet Haven Inc. of MN

Pet Haven is Minnesota's oldest animal rescue group. Pet Haven's vision is to be a rewarding place to volunteer, find a quality home for each animal, encourage a community of responsible companion animal guardians, eliminate the community's need to euthanize dogs and cats as a means of population control, and encourage a society where animals become more valued.

Meet Athena

This 7-year-old German Shepherd loves being part of the family! Weighing 73 lbs, Athena is a beautiful, well-mannered dog whose happy back wiggles and stretches are sure to brighten your day!Athena is fully house-trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. She goes on three walks a day and is also crate-trained. While she is comfortable in her crate when left alone or at night, she does well roaming the house when left for longer periods. While her previous owner mentioned she was good with dogs and cats, her current foster family believes that interactions with other dogs will require slow and careful introductions. With ongoing training (especially leash training), Athena has shown improvement, and her intelligent and responsive nature suggests she could continue to make progress. Due to a prior incident with a cat, she will require a cat-free home.Athena is wonderful with children! She lives with 3- and 6-year-olds and is incredibly patient and gentle with them, even snuggling up to them during down time. She lovingly checks on them when they play in different rooms and is well-behaved during playdates with neighborhood children. She adores family time and is happiest when everyone is together.Athena enjoys napping, playing with her favorite squeaky ball, and going on walks where she can sniff and explore. Right now, she has three daily walks – shorter walks when it’s cold and a longer stroll when the weather is nice. She will happily play tug-of-war with her squeaky ball but is also content to lounge and observe her surroundings. She also LOVES car rides and happily joins her family on trips to parks or even a drive-thru adventure!A family who can continue her leash training and provide her with daily walks and love would be a perfect match. A fenced yard is not required, as Athena responds well to voice commands and stays close when supervised. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and incredibly well-trained companion who will bring joy to your home, Athena is ready to meet you! If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450.
