Wags and Whiskers Animal Rescue of MN

Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. We are a small, volunteer run organization. All of our animals listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the animals' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter. This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We provide all needed supplies and cover medical costs of the foster while it awaits a forever home.

Meet Checo D5783 (bonded to Sandi D5784)

Hello, our names are Checo (DOB: 8/13/2013) and Sandi (DOB: 2/13/2016) and we’re best friends. We came to Wags because we recently lost our mom so keeping us together will help us get through this very hard transition in our lives. My name is Checo and I’m the white Poodle/Bichon X dog and am about 22lbs. I’m very easy going and love to take lots of naps. I get along well with other dogs and all humans including children of all ages. I don’t mind sleeping in my kennel at night and with my sister. I have luxating patella which is where my kneecap can pop out of place but it hasn’t slowed me down much. Due to my age, it does not make sense to surgically correct. Sometimes when I get up I’m a little stiff but it quickly goes away. I have no problem walking, running, or going up and down stairs. Keeping me on a joint supplement will really help me with the stiffness as I age. I also may have some mild allergies that have been helped along with a periodic allergy injection and my eyes are starting to get a little cloudy (which requires eye drops) but none on my health issues get in the way of me leading a happy life. My name is Sandi and I’m the red dog. My records say I am a Chihuahua mix but I look more like a Pug/Beagle X and am 45lbs but my ideal weight is just under 40. I like to take lots of naps and love to sit and look out the window to see what’s going on. I really like to go on walks and explore but am working on learning not to pull on my leash. I also really enjoy snuggling and tummy rubs and any attention I can get. I’m very easy going and love all humans and children of all ages. I also get along with other dogs well. I sleep in my kennel with my brother quietly. I do bark when someone comes to the door but quickly calm down when they enter. I’m a little chunky but am working on trimming down a bit. I had heartworm last Summer and completed treatment with my owner and am doing well so it’s imperative that I get my heartworm preventative every month because a reinfection could be disatrous for me. If you’re looking for very sweet and low energy companions, we are perfect for you. We look forward to meeting you! Our combined adoption fee is $700.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process includes an adoption application. After reviewing your application and contacting the vet and personal references, a meeting is scheduled between the potential adopter and the pet, in the foster's home or a neutral animal friendly place. If there are any resident animals within the home, it is required that they meet at this time. After the meeting, a home visit by one our representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pet will be living sometime during the adoption process. 6 month post-adoption check in is completed.
