Meet Fordham - MD
Hi everyone, this is Ford! Ford is an owner surrender, who was placed into the hands of ABMR due to work circumstances of his previous family. He is currently being fostered in Maryland, and has recently recovered from neuter surgery. He is up-to-date on shots and vaccines! This just turned 4 year-old boy is the perfect companion for someone who likes to do outdoor things but isn’t looking for a Mal with Ironman Triathlon energy levels. He likes to play outdoors and train, but is equally happy with “getting his toy” and laying down to chew on it or chill. He LOVES his toys. Balls, bones, ropes, tugs…he is ALL about it. The beautiful part is that he does NOT resource guard, and knows “out” (drop it) and will step back once it’s out of his mouth. He will play fetch for as long as you let him. He is also food motivated and takes treats gently when offered. Ford has EXCELLENT recall (from across the yard), knows all his basic commands and is eager to please. He is mostly a laid back boy that is very easy to handle. He walks nicely on a leash and is not a hyper jumper or puller. Inside the house, he is calm and relaxed unless someone is working him up (play or training) but flips his off switch very quickly. He is also house trained, fully crate and kennel trained. He rides well in a vehicle. Did I mention that he isn’t destructive? When out in the house he sniffs but doesn’t mouth anything and does not counter surf. Ford’s previous family had cats and other dogs, but he was never properly socialized with them. Therefore, his ideal home is without small animals or other pets. He is not super reactive, but definitely isn’t neutral to other dogs or pets. He may do well with proper introduction and reinforced training but that will take time and experienced help . He has not been tested with small children, but when taken out in public does very well with adults/young adults in a range of settings. Ford LOVES people and is an awesome lower drive boy. If you feel Ford is the dog for you, please fill out his adoption application here. For questions, please email Maryfrances, Ford's coordinator.
