Crest-Care, Inc.

Crest-Care, Inc a 501c3 CorporationWe are a group of individuals living across the United States and Canada, whose goals are to preserve and protect Chinese Cresteds in need. We provide vetting, transportation, and foster homes for each dog in need, until he or she can be carefully matched to an approved home. We provide education about the breed to private individuals interested in adopting, and to shelters as well, in an effort to help ensure the integrity of the breed as a whole. We are involved in Crest-Care, Inc. for no other reason than our concern for Chinese Cresteds in need. We realize our limitations in that we cannot save them all, but working together, we help those we can. We work within the framework of local and civil laws, in order to protect both dogs and all parties concerned.

Meet Xena (Arizona)

Xena: Warrier Princess is fostered in AZ Foster parents found Xena out in the 115-degree heat, full of ticks, too weak to move and terrified of people. After many vet trips, medicated baths, medication and love, she is a healthy young dog with lots of love to give to a family. Vets guess is 2 years or less. Xena is terribly shy and skittish, given time (a week) she will be in your lap and following you everywhere looking for attention.  She is super smart, and nothing gets past her; ears are always at alert. If there is a lizard on the fence, she’s after it immediately, strong prey drive. MUST be on a leash at all times! Loves to be on your lap, next to you, play fetch and boy does she love squeaky toys. We didn’t realize how many we had until she found every one in the house. If you are gone for any length of time, every toy will be waiting to greet you.  Sleeps soundly through the night, would prefer in your bed, will sleep in the dog bed if needed. She has never had an accident in the house!! We are starting to see more of her personality, she will go through the garbage, purses, anything that might have had food in it. This may lessen over time. She is food driven; with instructions she waits for the other dogs to finish and will then clean their bowls. She does not beg or whine for food. She has started with zoomies in the yard and boy is she fast.  She can jump extremely high with excitement for food or when you return, so happy. We tease that she’s mixed with kangaroo, lol. Given her age she is going thru puberty so has bumps which come and go over time. We’ve seen improvement in a short time and with good food and hygiene will continue to improve. She is a true red head, the little hair that she has and has grown a bit of hair down her spine.  I wouldn’t expect much more to show up.  Xena gets along with the current pack which is older. We suspect she would love a dog of her size to buddy with and burn off energy.  And someone to play fetch in a fenced yard. She hasn’t been on long walks due to the heat, however, once the weather changes would be a great hiking partner always on leash. Given her fear of people she will not be placed with young people. We have had family over and after barking and realizing they are harmless she will settle down, eventually checking them out. No aggression, just anxiety. We don’t know her story, however, she has been the best foster and deserves a loving, kind home of her own to continue blossoming. A fabulous dog!
