Meet Benny

Introducing Benny. Benny is 6 year old chihuahua Pomeranian mix that lived the few first years of his life on the streets of Texas. He is a very special dog and needs a very special home. He will not be everyone’s cup of tea, so please make sure to read his profile completely before applying.    Benny has been in rescue for over 2 years now. During this he has come a long way. Probably as far as he can go in a foster home. There are so many positives about Benny. He is completely crate trained. In fact he finds comfort in his crate. He lives to be outside in the nicer weather. Right now, he is in and out of the doggie door and can often be found lying on the back deck, soaking up the sun whenever he can. Benny gets along great with other small dogs. He loves to play with them in the yard or will wrestle on the bed with them in the morning. Benny will lie on the couch and lick their faces and clean their ears. In return, the other dogs will clean him as well. Benny will lay on the back of the couch while you watch TV, and he will sleep in the same room as you. He will let you know when he’s got to go outside, but Benny will also mark in the house at first. His house training has been pretty good, it’s just not perfect.    By now you may be wondering why Benny has needed so much time in a foster home. Well, although Benny is good with animals, he struggles with people. He is not a dog that will come up to you and ask for love. He’s a dog that will run from people if they reach for him. Benny will let his foster family pet him, if they are sitting on the couch or on the same level as him. He is not going to approach a person to ask for pets or affection . Even putting flea meds on him requires him to be corner in his crate. He is not a dog that will go for a walk with you. Benny is more of a cat than a dog. He is content to watch you from a distant as you go about your day. He is not aggressive, but he is very fast.    For these reasons, Benny absolutely must have a fully fenced yard, no electric fences will be allowed. There must be at least one other small dog in the home. He loves being part of the pack, so the more dogs the better in Bennys mind. He would like a home with older kids (14+) or no kids at all. A nice quiet home that will accept him for who he is. Benny may become better in time, but this may be who he is. And his person needs to accept that.  We require that a martingale collar be used at the time of adoption. If you do not have a martingale collar, you can purchase one from Pixie Mamas for an additional $10. This requirement is in place to ensure the dog's safety and security.   If you think Benny may be a match for you please apply for him. We are committed to finding Benny the right home, no matter how long it takes.   Benny is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  His adoption fee is $300
